read: Ill. Senate OKs Video Game Restrictions
Ok, my favourite part is “Video games are not art or media,” she said. “They are simulations, not all that different from the simulations used by the U.S. military in preparation for war.” (Quote from Sen. Deanna Demuzio).
Now, I know this statement I’m about to make is a little ignorant itself, and not at all about what she really meant but, I didn’t realize the U.S. Army trained for war using Animal Crossing or Super Mario Party. Using a general statement such as hers is just plain ignorant. And saying that they are not art is ridiculous, has she seems some of these games and the beauty that is in them (ICO for example), the music (the Final Fantasy series), and the story that goes into them. Yes, some games are pure violence fests, but the over the top violent video games make up such a small percentage of the total number that grouping them together is just plain stupid.
Many Video games are art. And I’m not disagreeing that they need to be regulated, that stores should not be allowed to sell certain games to minors. I’m just disagreeing with her apparent point of view that video games are evil. I think in order to pass such a law, you should have to spend a few hours playing these games, and other games as well so you get a good feel for the variety that is out there.
I’m so sick of hearing the evils of video games or music or T.V. or movies.. get a life. You know who’s responsibility it is to monitor what kids watch/see/play/listen to? PARENTS.
