Ok, so I know, I haven’t blogged in a long time.  Again.  Whatever.

Here’s an update on our pregnancy/baby status:  The baby and mom are  healthy, we are at just about 29 weeks, so there’s not much time left to go (about 3 months).  We’ve gone for our first ultrasound (about 6-7 weeks ago) and the doctors and technician were very happy.

We tried to go to UC Baby to get some 3d/4D (3D + time) photos & video, but the baby was being very uncooperative.  We will be going back again next Thursday to try again.  They said they will try 2-3 times before they give up (We’d only end up paying a sitting fee).  We got the baby’s heartbeat on a bear, but we really want the pictures to show it when it gets older.

We do NOT want to know the baby’s sex.  We will be happy with either.  we have names picked out for both. though my sister stole our girls name, we may use it anyway.  people may find that strange, but I don’t really care, its a name we both love and we can actually agree on.

We are pretty set when it comes to clothes, and we have a basinet, but we still have to buy a crib & change table (and start stocking up on diapers, and other essentials).  We will probably get the crib this month, we just have to find one we like.

We are also hunting for a good used car, preferably of foreign make (I am a bit against domestics), so If you know anyone with a year 2000+ car for sale at a reasonable price (read: sub 10k), let me know.

We’ve been taking pre-natal classes, which for Rhonda is a complete waste of time (She’s been a nanny for 12 years and was a doula for 2).  I also find them a bit of a bore, they only go over what you’ve already read in books.  I was hoping they would get more into the "what-ifs", etc.  Or go over local resources, where to get things, etc.  That’s the stuff I don’t know.

At the first class however, we got a predictions quiz, and I finally got Rhonda to fill her’s out.  So here’s our answers, we’ll see how close we were when the baby is born:

Predictions Rhonda Christien
Date of Birth March 25 - Afternoon March 25 - Morning
Gender Male Male
Weight 7lb 4oz 9lb 4oz
Hair Colour Brown Blond
Amount of Hair Not Much Average
Type of Hair Short/Straight Straight
Eye Colour Brown * Brown
Head Shape Oval Oval
Behaviour N/A Calm, Sleepy
Resemblance Christien Mix
Boy Name Jack Jack Francis
Girl Name Isobel Isobel Reilly

* Rhonda pointed out that almost all baby’s are born with blue eyes that change colours with a short period of time.

Neither of us saw the other’s answers.  I just saw hers now as I was typing them in.  My answers were hidden from her as well.  Its pretty cool that we both answered so similarly, the only thing we’ve really discussed in the names.  Neither of us really has a good gut feeling on the sex, so we both just guessed.

It’ll be neat after the baby is born to see how close/far we were from reality.

Anyway, I gotta get back to work.

The two Grade 12 students show off the pink shirts they wore to school.Dooohhead sent this my way this morning:

CBC.ca: Bullied student tickled pink by schoolmates’ T-shirt campaign

Its stories like these that make me really sit back and re-think my opinion of kids these days.  Sure there are a lot of little bastards out there (like the guys who bullies the poor victim for wearing a pink shirt), but there are also really good kids too, like these two in the story.  They didn’t have to stand up, they didn’t have to put their necks out for the victim.  But they did.  Not only did they stand up, but they encouraged dozens of their fellow students to stand up as well.  All I have to say is good for them!

It is absurd to me that someone would be bullied for wearing a pink t-shirt.

So for the last 2 glorious weeks, I’ve been on vacation.  No office for me!  Bread & Roses Inn - Entry way

For the most part, I’ve been relaxing, playing games, reading, watching  movies, sleeping.  Rhonda and I went to the valley and visited my mom and explored some of the sights.  She hasn’t been to the valley much, so I took her to Annapolis Royal, we saw the forts (Fort Anne & The Habitation), the Historic Gardens, and stayed at a lovely bed & breakfast called “Bread & Roses“, a beautiful Victorian house.

20070825 - 0192 (DSC_0217) We also visited Grand Pre, visited a winery, saw the Grand-PrĂ© National Historic Site, and stayed at another really nice Bed & Breakfast called “The Old Lantern”.  Our suite had a whirlpool bath!

For reading, I’ve picked up on Alastair Reynolds.  He’s a British sci-fi writer.  I finished Absolution Gap and have started another of his books Pushing Ice.  Unfortunately, Absolution Gap was near the end of a series (well, at the end, other than a short story or two) so I’m going to have to go back and read the other ones of the series.  The book I’m reading now, however seems to be of the same “universe” but not of the same storyline I think.  I really enjoy his writing, and his characters.  I’m usually not one for sci-fi, but i really like these books.

In gaming, I started off playing a lot of “Lord of the Rings Online“.  I’m still playing it a bit, but recently bought “Two Worlds” and “Guitar Hero II” for XBox 360.  I’ve been playing them incessantly for 3 days now.  “Two Worlds” is a fantasy-rpg.  The controls are infuriating at first, and the dialog is bordering on retarded.  But I’ve really gotten into it (that seems to be the key according to many of the reviews).  “Guitar Hero II”, I played to death for the PS2, but I’m giving my copy to my mom’s husband, so I got it for 360 so I can play the new songs *& maybe get some downloadables if they release anything I want.  Plus apparently, the guitar will be compatible with “Rock Band” and it’s USB, and works with “Frets on Fire”.

Anyway, here are some more pictures of our vacation…

Donating this year is a bit more difficult as there does not seem to be a pay-pal interface :( so credit cards are required… I had to cross my fingers that mine would work, but I plan on making a donation with each pay through to mid-November when I’ll be switching to Child’s Play (another great cause!).
